Body & Soul
Inspiration from the Masters
I saw a photograph many years ago and for as long as I’ve been serious about photography, I’ve wanted to create my version of it. Finally in 2022 I had the opportunity, the subject and the vision to make it a reality.
Here is, that photograph.
The inspiration for my version came from an album cover session for the incomparable Sade shot by the brilliant Albert Watson. The shoot was for Sade’s 1992 “Love Deluxe” release and if you’re a fan of her music, I can imagine you’ve seen the cover. However … there is a lesser-known image of Sade taken during that session that presents this artist in all her glory and beauty.
As a photographer and artist it is important for me to give credit where credit is due. I have amassed numerous “photography heroes” during my career and I recently found how one of them recreated several pieces of art without giving attribution to the original artist. For me, that severely lessened that photographer’s character in my eyes to the point where their place as a hero in my life, is no longer.
Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m the only one who believes attribution and credit are things EVERY artist should do. I sure hope not, but if I am … I’m ok with that.
Special thanks to my wonderful model for this series, Ms. Lisa Bush. If you would like to book her for a shoot of your own, you can reach her here. She’s a joy to work with and always gives her best.
